Artyfacts The National Art Exhibition raises money for the local community. It was first held at the Hawke’s Bay Museum and Stairways Gallery in 1982. The Pan Pac Foyer of the Napier Municipal Theatre has been the venue for the last decade.
The Rotary Club of Greenmeadows aims to show a wide range of artworks that range from the affordable to the high end of the market. Artists exhibit by invitation only and last year our 73 exhibitors ranged from Christchurch in the south to Russell in the north. The aim is to exhibit paintings that are saleable and appeal to a wide range of buyers. The result last year was the sale of 76 paintings sold for over $85,000 with an average sale price of $1150. The 2009 People’s Choice Award winner was Waiheke Island artist, Wayne Sinclair, with three paintings reflecting nearly forty years’ painting experience. The Rainbow Umbrella Trust was the recipient of the major grant of $20,000 from the 2009 National Art Exhibition. The Trust was established in Napier in 2008 to provide an After School Care Programme for children with disabilities, both intellectual and physical. The funds were used to purchase a vehicle to transport children to and from the programme. The Trust fulfils a ground-breaking need to help these unfortunate special children and their families. Over the past 12 years the Rotary Club of Greenmeadows has donated over a quarter of million dollars to worthy recipients that include Birthright, Taradale Cricket Club, the Rotary Pathway Trust, Napier Community Patrol, Napier Riding For the Disabled and the HB Air Ambulance Trust.
Greenmeadows Rotary are indebted to their sponsors.
