Phil paints a range of subjects including cityscapes and landscapes, working in oil, watercolour and pencil. He has drawn and painted since childhood resulting in the 2014 publication Phil Dickson’s Wellington. Phil exhibits with Academy of Fine Arts, Watercolour NZ, Wellington Art Club and Hutt Art Society.
